Adam & Rebecca : Vow Renewal

Added on by Sabrina Biffer.

Adam and Rebecca eloped in 2011, much to the surprise of their families and friends. For their 5th anniversary, they renewed their vows in a formal wedding ceremony.

Rebecca is my parents' goddaughter; her parents are some of my parents' oldest friends. I've known her family since before she was born! I was excited to document such an important day for her, Adam, and their families.

I was honored to photograph my friend's daughter's Frozen-themed birthday again this year. Z, the birthday girl, is growing up so fast!

Amsha Studio

I enjoyed photographing a selection of jewelry and home goods for Amsha Studio, a small company here in Portland. Amsha provides skills training and jobs for artisans in Rwanda and Kenya.

IDP Fundraiser

I was honored when my friend, P., invited me to photograph this fundraising event for internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the recent floods in Myanmar. The local Kachin American Community organization hosted the event, which featured music and dance performances, raffles, and a wonderful variety of foods from different regions of Myanmar. I was struck by the focus on inclusion at this event; all ethnic groups from Myanmar were invited and equally celebrated.

I was so excited to meet my cousin Melissa's newborn daughter, Carina, while visiting family on the east coast in August. She's just 11 days old in these photos. She prefers sleeping with one fist in the air, which makes her look like a tiny superhero or protester. Clearly she's got grit, just like her mom.

I volunteered my photography services to make these portraits for a display at a World Refugee Day celebration in Portland. It was a privilege to meet Ka Ler, Serhii, Baloke, Helen, and Pedro, and to hear their stories.

My great-grandmother became a refugee in eastern Europe when she was a teen. She went outside to read and ended up watching from a field as her family was murdered in a pogrom. Throughout my life her story has served as a reminder of how suddenly we can be forced to leave everything.

No one chooses to become a refugee. Wealthier nations need to do more to host and assist refugees.
